A safe play
Football players know it's part of the game to
get pushed, pulled or sometimes even lifted up
off the field, but by nursing students? You bet.
Thanks to some volunteer football players,
sophomore nursing students had a more realistic
lab on patient positioning to learn equipment,
safety measures and good body mechanics with
experience in women with disabilities
grant from the National Institutes of Health has
paved the way for professors from throughout the
northeast, including Suzanne Smeltzer, EdD, RN,
FAAN, professor and director of the Center for
Nursing Research, to research the needs of women
with disabilities around the time of pregnancy
through the study “Health Needs and Barriers to
Perinatal Care for Women with Mobility
Learning the legislative process
March 13th was the Capitol Hill Step by Step
program, sponsored by the state Student Nurses'
Association of Pennsylvania (SNAP) in
Harrisburg. Sophomore Liz Long, legislative
coordinator for both the SNAP-Villanova chapter
and the state SNAP, was one of the coordinators.

Dr. Al-Gasseer to
deliver keynote at conference
"Building Evidence in Partnership Towards a
Healthy Population in a Changing Environment" is
the keynote to be delivered
at the College's 60th
“Partners in advancing
global health: educating the next generation” by Naeema al-Gasseer, PhD, FAAN.
She serves as the assistant regional director
for the World Health Organization (WHO) Eastern
Mediterranean Region and a WHO representative in
school students learn about nursing
Volunteer nursing students, member of the Chi
Eta Phi Sorority, shared their experiences as
nursing students with a group of visiting high
school students recently.
All are welcome to join the College as it
showcases the scholarly work of BSN students in
the last year.
Undergraduate Scholars Day will be held Tuesday,
April 23rd from 10:30am-3:30pm in the Driscoll
Hall lobby. The free event, open to the
community, is sponsored by the Alpha Nu Chapter
of Sigma Theta Tau International. No
registration is required.
