February 2013
Cold weather this
month hasn't slowed seniors in health promotion or
pediatric practica from prepping for their upcoming
spring break global health experiences with faculty in
Peru, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic.
Additionally, some of our adult second degree students
will be promoting health among the children of Montana's
Blackfeet Nation. We wish them well!

Employment leads for our newest alumni
As our senior
nursing students study their way through their last
semester on campus, they are also seeking employment. In
show of solidarity as they launch their young careers,
the Nursing Alumni Association is collecting any
pertinent information from you, our fellow alumni around
the country, which might help them. So, if your
institution is hiring new grads please take a few
minutes to share the details through this
online form.
The information will be compiled and sent via email to
the graduating students so they can target receptive
employers who will benefit from the knowledge, skills
and leadership of a Villanova Nurse.

Nursing in the media -
sleep texting
"I suggest everyone in the family place a
docking station in the kitchen or family room --
outside of the bedroom -- at 10 p.m. so everyone
can get restorative sleep and to show children
that the phone can be turned off some of the
time," says pediatric Internet safety expert Dr.
Beth Dowdell in an article for
UPI wire service on "sleep texting" in
teens.
Her comments were
picked up by
radio and numerous
web outlets, and even got a mention on
Jimmy Kimmel Live .

Anesthesia, Afghan style
There's nothing typical about the job of
nurse anesthetist Lt. Cmdr. Joe Delino, NC, USNR,
’09 MSN, CRNA. He spends his days treating
children and adults who have been wounded by
improvised explosive devices or gunshots in
Afghanistan. On call every minute, he also flies
MEDEVAC missions on Blackhawks.
